Christopher Smiles startete zusammen mit dem Produzenten Christoph Kahse im Jahr 2007 das CD-Studioprojekt „Smiles: Metanoía”, nachdem er vorher 20 Jahren musikalisch pausiert hatte, weil er als Songwriter meinte, nichts mehr zu sagen zu haben. 2009 ging es nach vielen personellen Wechseln und Rückschlägen dann mit Volldampf und neuer Band los: Mit Dutzenden neuer Songs aus der Versenkung aufgetaucht, suchte Christopher Musiker, welche seine Vision von zeitgemäßem Rock zwischen Pop und Prog teilen.

Die Metanoía-EP von 2007 ist also der Anfang von SMILES, teilweise ist in den fünf Songs die Vision schon erkennbar, teilweise pendelt die Musik noch unentschieden zwischen Pop und Rock. Zeitlos bleiben aber solche Song-Juwelen wie „You shine“, die SMILES heute immer noch spielen.

Die Bandbreite der Musik reicht dabei von Hard-Rock-Krachern und Heavy-Metal-Riffs fürs Stadion über melodieselige und hymnische Popsongs bis hin zu Pub-Folk sowie Ambient- und Trance-Soundtüfteleien unter dem Alias Cracks in the System a.k.a. House Tops.

Diese Website enthält als Sound bites Teile der Metanoía-EP sowie Demoaufnahmen und Home-Recordings sowie Stücke von der 2012er Download-EP House Tops, bei denen Christopher alle Instrumente selbst beigesteuert hat – mit Hilfe von einem Roland GR-20 Synthesizer („fantastisches Teil“) und einem Drum-Computer („stupide Maschine“).
